CBD Oil is it addictive? You’re probably beginning to see CBD products and brands showing up every where as CBD begins to dominate the market as a natural alternative for the management of pain and anxiety. As more and more people use CBD oil, many are questioning whether there are any significant side effects they need to be aware of, such as is CBD addictive and does it have psychoactive properties- are some of the biggest concerns. Cannabidiol, popularly known as CBD, comes from the extracts of the cannabis plant. However, CBD is often confused with the drug marijuana and hemp oil, one of which can be habit forming, so let’s clear up the differences.
CBD is the second most prominent active ingredient of the cannabis plant of the hundreds of chemical compounds. The World Health Organization’s 2017 Pre-Review Report stated that “evidence from well-controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential.” Moreover, CBD itself has not shown any evidence of being addictive.” Some research even suggests that CBD may help in drug addiction, with research showing the CBD helped to reduced cigarette consumption in smokers by 42%.
CBD is extensively used in the treatment of epileptic seizures and can calm people with anxiety. CBD works with the neuro-receptors of our bodies to enhance the functions of the cardiovascular, muscle, and immune systems, improving the body’s overall homeostasis. This, in turn, reduces stress and relieves anxiety symptoms.
CBD oil is also effective in lessening chronic pains. Other effects of CBD that have been discovered include- reducing inflammation, regulating the immune system, suppressing nausea, and inhibiting cancer to an extent.
Is it Safe to Use CBD Oil Everyday?
CBD is safe to use daily and for best results it’s recommended that you do use it daily as benefits compound over time. Most CBD users microdose CBD over a period of time for maximum benefits
A typical microdosing schedule is as follows:
- Week 1 – Starting dosage is 2.5 mg per kilogram of body weight (mg/kg) twice daily, making a total dosage of 5mg/kg each day
- Week 2 – Increase dosage to 2.5mg four times daily, a total of 10mg/kg per day
- Week 3 – Increase dosage to 2.5mg three times daily, a total of 15mg/kg per day
- Week 4 – Maintain dosage and monitor how you feel, after week 4 you may decide to increase or decrease the dosage by adding or removing an extra drop to your dosing schedule daily . Those who are using CBD for pain or chronic anxiety may need to use a higher dosage for more immediate relief, increase drops slowly and keep a diary to monitor symptoms and effects.
CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile. Reported adverse effects may be as
a result of drug-drug interactions between CBD and patients’ existing medications.
Like all forms of treatments, medication, and even natural remedies, the FDA states that CBD may carry some potential minor side effects. The list includes drowsiness, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, and interactions with prescription medications, alcohol, and illicit drugs. Other effects may involve mild low blood pressure, dry mouth, and lightheadedness. However, addiction or dependence on CBD oil has not been reported.
